Komen Central and Western Oklahoma is the local source for funding breast cancer detection, support and educational awareness in our 47-County Service Area. Through its 2016-2017 Community Grants, Komen Central and Western Oklahoma is investing over $300,000 in education, diagnosis, treatment and support programs in Central and Western Oklahoma with four local organizations that serve uninsured or underinsured residents in our service area. Since it was founded in 1994, Komen Central and Western Oklahoma has invested more than $10 million in local breast health agencies and organizations. It is estimated that 1,415 people in our service area will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. The funds Komen Central and Western Oklahoma grants to community programs in our service area have made a positive difference in the lives of those living with this deadly disease.
Since 1994 Komen Central and Western Oklahoma funding provided:
- 161,608 people with breast health education
- 16,631 no-cost screening mammograms for medically underserved Central and Western Oklahoma residents
- 6,273 people with breast cancer diagnostic services
- 209 breast cancers were detected in people who otherwise may not have had access to this life-saving information who are now able to seek treatment
The remaining 25 percent of net funds were invested in the Susan G. Komen Research Grants Program managed at the national level. To learn more about Susan G. Komen’s research investment, click here.
